With school only three weeks out, we took advantage of what was left of summer and headed to the great outdoors. Camp, Swim, Fish, Stand-up Paddleboard activities in addition to a little bit of running and TRX training. We are on the road so this will be a brief post filled with photos of what we did this past weekend.
We lucked out on finding a campsite right next to a river. At first I didn’t like being out in the open since there was another site that looked more secluded. My husband selected the one next to the river and he made the right choice. The sound of the rushing river at night made it easier to fall asleep.
We finally invested in a camp stove and a small cast iron pan to cook up healthy and tasty dinners. We also packed a cooler filled with vegetables and fruits since those seem more costly in remote areas. So for dinner we purchased a pack of chicken apple sausage from a local butcher shop that specializes in smoked jerky but also makes a variety of fresh sausages. Two chicken apple sausages sliced and combined with a packaged mix of cauliflower/broccoli was quick and delicious.
I knew it was going to be a short run but it didn’t matter. I needed a quick workout before we packed up to head to Tahoe – our next destination. I ran towards the lake nearby where a few fisherman waded awaiting their first catch. Heading back, I picked a path that followed the river but was forced to hike up a hill and had to carefully traversed back down to the river to return to the trail that led to our site.
After my run, I looked for a spot to attach the TRX near the river to finish off my workout. My daughter joined me and wanted to try the same exercises I was doing.
5 hours later after a brief lunch stop in Lee Vining, we arrived at our campsite in Meeks Bay. This was the only site I can reserve and I am pleased with the location being walking distance to the lake. We spent the afternoon on the SUP while the girls tried out their new inflatable boat. I am looking forward to try paddleboard yoga the following day.
