Buti Yoga – On my Weekly Training Recap.

Ever heard of Buti Yoga?  So many fitness workouts exist that are unfamiliar to me and have never tried.  I guess I like to stay inside my sphere of familiarity and comfort.  However, this time I was curious to try a new form of yoga – Buti Yoga. When I first heard of it, I couldn’t help but think if this has anything to do with moving your ‘Booty’!  Guess I wasn’t too far off from those initial thoughts.

A week ago I received an invite from a fellow sweatpink ambassador for an opportunity to collaborate with Lymber, a local San Diego company. Lymber is an app designed for people who’d rather forgo a monthly membership fee or any type of restrictions to attend fitness classes.  You can easily view the available classes based on your location and preferred time, see how much it costs and decide if this is a class you’d like to try.  Simple right!?  Also, part of the invite was a complimentary event to a Buti and Vinyasa yoga class.  Two free fitness classes? Hard to pass up!

Lymber-Solti Event

The other thing that caught my attention about the event was the venue – Solti Tasting Room.  Oooh, do we get to taste beer or wine?  Quite the contrary, Solti is a brand of pressed organic juice.  The tasting room is designed similar to many of San Diego’s breweries.  You can sample the juices drawn from one of the eight taps.  One of the tasters was a coconut charcoal lemonade.  The ingredients intrigued me so I had to try it.  It’s lemonade with a hint of coconut, quite tasty!  Solti is the first glass-bottled, light-filtered and cold-pressed juice on the market.  And they’re planning to expand their tasting rooms all the way to the east coast.

After a bit of mingling and tasting the juices, we situated ourselves on the mats.  We started with Buti Yoga and the instructor asked how many of us is trying it for the first time.  A number of hands went up. Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who hasn’t done it.  The rhythmic, heavy beats of the background music clued me in that this was not your typical yoga practice.  We started out slow in a seated position with the breath, then we proceeded to gyrate our hips and synced our movements to the beats of the music.  Hey, we are moving our booty!

What is Buti Yoga?  As defined on their website, it’s a “calorie-scorching workout that fuses power yoga with cardio-intensive tribal dance + body sculpting primal movement. Created by Celebrity Trainer Bizzie Gold, Buti Yoga utilizes the Spiral Structure Technique to sculpt + tone the deep abdominal muscles that stabilize and strengthen the body. Instead of linear movements, Gold favors movements that challenge the body along all planes of motion – the result – long, lean muscle with sexy feminine curves.”

I couldn’t help but be drawn to Buti Yoga because of the element of dance.  By the end of the half hour session, I felt invigorated wanting more.  Unfortunately, the only classes offered in San Diego is up north at least a 40 min drive away from where I live.  Hopefully more studios will offer a class when its appeal is recognized.  We had a quick break after the session ended, then started a Vinyasa with a different instructor.  This was the type of yoga I knew, which was a good ending to a night of unfamiliar experiences.
